Olio Mio Newsletter

It has been 4 years since we picked our first vintage & I know we have been slack updating our website but in our defence we have been busy making improvements & expanding our range of wine. This year saw all the wine bottled under our new label which is branded with the emblem we use for our well known Olio Mio olive oil. The Verdehlo & Tempranillo grapes are 4 years old & producing good quality fruit & wine .

The ’08 vintage was a challenge due to the wet conditions. The Vedehlo & Tempranillo were picked by the long weekend in January. We are delighted to tell you the ‘08 Verdehlo was awarded a bronze medal at the Maitland Boutique Wine Show in September . The Tempranillo decided it didn’t want to ripen above 10 baume & was made into a beautiful Rose. The ’07 Tempranillo is an interesting food wine drinking well now. This Spanish variety is well suited to our region & is growing in popularity. The Shiraz was hit with mould after nine straight days of rain at the start of February so a family grape fight resulted. Good sticky fun. We now have 4 vintages of Shiraz , ’04 only 1 dozen left,’05 great wine limited supply, ’06 a beautiful wine drinking well now,’07 best cellared for 2-5 years.

We have just released our 2004 Sparkling Shiraz the softer style is proving very popular. Great with pork ,turkey & seafood.

The olives were harvested & pressed in early April with a total yield of 20 ton or 4,000 litres of extra virgin olive oil. We will soon be offering a gift box 2 pack & 5lt stainless steel can, looks like a scaled down version of a milk can, great in the kitchen.

We are well into the season, grapes ,olives trees & the property in general all looking a picture thanks to some rain, mild weather & a lot of work. If weather permits should be another excellent vintage. Will endeavour to keep the website current!
